Story Ideas - Harrogate’s Indian Summer

HARROGATE has experienced a true Indian summer, with temperatures soaring up to 25 degrees.

Bars and pub happily welcomed the heat wave as many of us have been splashing out on refreshing drinks in the sun.

The stay has been full all weekend, with the young and old enjoying the last sun off the year.

Families enjoyed Valley Gardens, taking use of the park, games and boating pond in Valley Gardens. Ripley Ice Cream based in Valley Gardens was taken aback by the sudden heat wave, and ran out of ice cream on Saturday afternoon, but were soon back in business by a speedy delivery from the shop in Ripley.

It also seems we have been pulling out our rusty barbeques and enjoying the last of this year’s sun.

Local butcher Jim Paxton,52, commented, "This weekend has to be the busiest we have every had in September! Everyone was planning on having a barbeque."

However the weather has not been a nice break for all of us. The hospitals have been full of patients suffering from heat stroke and severe sunburn. Local Nurse Mary Benwell said "Many people have underestimated the strength of the sun this weekend, and have had to be treated medically."

Unfortunately, the unseasonal weather is due to end on Monday, with temperatures suddenly dropping to a more normal 14
